WFB: 8th Edition – Sneak Peak
by Homer Figueras on Tuesday, April 20, 2010
I can't express enough how excited I am about Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th edition. With Games Workshop announcing the release in July, Christmas just came a lot earlier for me. I started the hobby playing Fantasy with Ogres and if all the rumors I've been reading are true, I might very well be starting 8th Edition with the big green charging machines.

In the next few weeks, I will be trying my best to get in contact with the Design Studio and ask them a few question for the GWChicagoBunker.com community about this exciting release. Stay tuned and until then, I leave you with this little blurb from Games Workshop and new announcement video.

"Warhammer, the Game of Fantasy Battles will be released in July. The preparation for this date has been a time of great excitement here in the Studio as we have lavished detail, care and attention onto the rulebook and the fantastic Citadel miniatures range that it accompanies...

Unbox the Black Box – War of the Rings!
by Homer Figueras on Tuesday, April 27, 2010
It's here! It's here! The Bunker got its hands on the new Black Box! Actually... it's been here for a while. I've been crazy busy here at GWChicagoBunker.com. I've been busy working on other parts of the site as well as finding other contributing editors, that I forgot to post the newest video from "Cool Guys Who Sit at Home." Here's the clip of Aaron and Marc unboxing the Black Box. I was hoping to see Aaron disappear and the camera span to the corner and see nothing but the Black Box. I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed "Blair Witch." Great job guys!

What's in the Black Box?

  • War of the Ring: Battle Hosts (Book)
  • Knights of Dol Amroth (Sprue)
  • Morgul Knights (Sprue)

GWChicagoBunker – Revamped Logo
Old Logo
If you failed to notice, GWChicagoBunker.com's logo got a slight tweek to its design. When I initially decided to do the NBA logo-style Space Marine, this was what I was envisioning – distressed, battle damaged and spilled paint. I'm extremely excited to get this monkey of my back. I sat down several times trying to nail this look, but every attempt left me frustrated. For those with some design background, you guys will agree how important it is to get the logo right. It sets the feel and attitude – branding the product you are trying to sell your audience. I hope you all like it!
The Hobby Bar: Mixing Flow-Aid
Well... I finally got around to making my first tutorial video. I think it came out pretty darn cool if I don't say. This was my first time doing any video editing or recording so I spent the last two weeks running it through my head on how to make these videos as helpful and easy to follow. My voice wasn't made to do documentary voice-overs so I had to write captions to help the viewer through the process.

Why Flow-aid? I love this stuff! I'll be using this stuff throughout my future painting tutorial videos that I'll be doing so that it was best to get this video up and done with. Flow-aid is exactly what the name says. It helps your paint flow better. When you add excessive amounts of water to your paint, especially if you are wet blending and layering, the pigments in your paint start to get unstable and even start to appear chalky. Flow-aid is pretty much a mixture you use to keep your pigments vibrant yet translucent.

I hope you enjoyed the video or at least got you excited to see new videos I'll be doing on my spare time. Remember to consistently check back and visit The Hobby Bar section as I have several videos I will be posting in the next couple of weeks.

"AP1" Moves Headquarters to Chicago Bunker
Well its official! AP1 has joined forces with Chicago Bunker and has moved their headquarters. It was fitting considering that AP1 was started under the tutelage of Dan Duck, manager of the largest Games Workshop in North America. This is a exciting time for both AP1 and the Bunker. With their club growing into massive numbers, they needed a venue to hold their awesome events. And to celebrate this new marriage, AP1 hosted recruitment event which had a mega battle and the Bunker's first ever club BBQ party!

With Brian and Ernie handling the gaming aspect, Max took control of recruiting and AP1's very own chef, Eddie, managed the grill. With the great food followed an amazing epic mega battle that ended with a single decisive dice roll.

Brian Schlottman: Hey everyone, I just wanted to say thanks for everyone who showed up to the event saturday. It was the probably the most most exciting game AP1 has thrown and the most successful. It literally came down to one dice roll. It was probably the best tied game I have ever been apart of. (and Joe its all your fault that it was a tie lol jk). I am also glad that we where able to have so many people show...

Spearhead: New Expansion for Tank Battles

by homer figueras on Wednesday, June 2, 2010
If you happen to be in a cave or some remote island, than you probably haven’t heard about the new exclusive 40K expansion available with the June issue of White Dwarf called Spearhead. If you love tanks as much as I do, than this expansion is just right up your alley. In a Spearhead battle both players are allowed to include special formations in their army. There are a wide range of spearheads to choose from and every army can take advantage of such formations in different way. An altered Force Organization Chart allows players to concentrate on units that suit their play style.

Spearhead also uses a new set of missions and battles are fought down the length of the table, with opposing sides starting some distance apart. The set-up used in Spearhead ensures a different confrontation, one that favors long-ranged firepower and heavily armored troops and vehicles...
