If there's anything that I can attribute in getting me more hooked on this hobby other than the cool people that I met playing this game, it has to be the biggest and coolest gaming convention in Chicago — Adepticon. There's just not enough adjectives I can use to describe how amazing Adepticon can be for the beginner that just started the hobby or to the seasoned vets who have been doing this for years. Its a three day convention full of gaming, painting, seminars, and cool vendors with amazing products to fuel the addiction to the hobby.

For the beginners or veterans in the hobby, Adepticon can be a great place for inspiration or a quick glimpse into what the hobby can be if you want to take the hobby to the limits. Adepticon 2009 was the turning point in my hobby. Four months in, I participated in the Fantasy Team Tournament with my friend David. We got our butts spanked but honestly, losing couldn't be any more fun. What I learned in those 3 days, makes all the pain and tears go away. Seeing all those amazingly painted and converted armies made me into a much better hobbyist. I remember walking up to my first gaming table and thought to myself... "Blending, layering, conversions, themed armies, creative basing, and magnets!? I didn't even know you can paint armies like this." I can't stress it enough, if you're itching to challenge your gaming or take your hobby it to the next level, Adepticon is a great road to follow.

Another thing that makes Adepticon amazing is just the energy and environment it radiates. There's misconception that these hardcore gaming by gamers convention is full of #$%@^! and $@&*@! but that's not the case. Everyone I've met there is super friendly. Everyone there is so willing to teach you everything you want to know. Want to know how someone painted their army? Wait until gaming stops and ask them. You'll be surprised how many people will go out of their way to tell you every single color they used to paint that award winning rogue demon in their army.

As for Adepticon 2010, I sadly did not get to participate this year because I was working at the Bunker on those days. I had the late/closing shift so I got a chance to visit during the day. Walked around, shopped, took pictures and watched a few friends play some games. I already requested to have those days available next year so I can participate in Adepticon 2011. If you're interested in coming with, or joining one of my teams, send me a email and lets get planning for the best three days of gaming, hobby and good times!! In the meantime, enjoy some pictures I took at my visit.

Check out this amazing Warhammer 40,000 display! Three levels of awesomeness. The picture above shows the Imperial Sector which leads to a underground Manufactorum. The Manufactorum has a secret stair case that leads to the bottom level which displays a hidden Chaos Shrine. Check out the pics below. The pictures can't do justice to how amazing this 6' x 6' x 3' display board is.
Here is a pic of the Manufactorum. It was a assembly line of Chimeras that started as parts that lead into a ramp to the Imperial Sector. The attention to detail is outstanding. The creators were ingenious enough to put lights throughout the display.
Here is a pic of the Chaos Shrine. Check out the black light they added.
Jeff and Swan of Games Workshop play a epic open game at Adepticon 2010 with some fellow gamers. Check out Swan's Thunderhawk gunship in action below.

Top: Chris and Tyler, my good friends from Geneva Common, in the Warhammer 40k Team Tournament. Below: Josh and Matt make up the other 2 teammates in this four player event. From the look on Matt's eyes, this game isn't going so well. At least your army looks awesome!
Scott (white shirt) leans over in frustration as his Chaos Warriors are abused by some Dark Elves. Tyler (black shirt) ponders over how to crush his Skaven opponent. With a lose in the 3rd game, Tyler slips out of a Top 3 finish. You'll get it next year!
Max and his friends having fun hanging out at Adepticon 2010. Smile guys!!
